Welcome!

What is Econometrics?

Well hopefully if you are on this website you have at least a rough idea of what Econometrics is. If not, I am not really sure how you got here and I don't expect you will be staying much longer.

Econometrics quite literally means "economics" and "measurement". In other words, it is using statistical techniques to test and analyse economic theories and hypotheses. While that all sounds rather dry and boring it is far from it. Econometrics can be used to predict and evaluate election outcomes, sports results, the impact of marijuana legalisation, factors affecting crime and all sorts of other interesting things.

If you don't already enjoy it, I hope that in time you will come to love Econometrics like I do. If that is perhaps too much to ask, then at the very least I hope I can make the subject slightly more bearable for you.

How This Website Works

Currently I have started creating resources on analysing cross-sectional data. This is data that is collected on lots of individuals at a single point in time and it is the foundation of most Econometrics courses. In time I will be expanding the notes to cover time series data and panel data as well.

To view these resources click on the folder in the Topic Navigation Menu. You will see that each folder is made up of subtopics and each subtopic has notes as well as questions for you to test your understanding. On each page there is also a "Page Navigation" tool. This is useful on longer pages or if you are looking for specific information.

A Final Note

Making these resources has taken significant time and energy. I debated creating a subscription model but strongly believe that education should be a public good and freely accessible to all. Consequently, this website is funded primarily through donations.

If you have found these resources useful to your studies then I would really appreciate a donation.

Many thanks,

Alex M.
